Sindhu enters final, sets up title date with Marin

Sindhu enters final, sets up title date with Marin

Marin fought back hard but Sindhu (11-9) managed to hold her lead at the mid break.

'I was prepared for a long match because it's always been like that between us. In the first game, the manner in which Sindhu approached her play at the net was a feature that stood out.

India's Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is into her first final of her home Superseries event, after withstanding a late charge from Korea's Sung Ji Hyun. It then turned out to be a see-saw first set but Sindhu prevailed and won it 19-21. Sindhu had last defeated Marin in the BWF Super Series in Dubai past year. this win, however, was sweet revenge for the Rio loss.

This is where the Spaniard is considered to be a unsafe opponent as she can change the tempo of the match at will.

They had won the title in 2015.

The clash that Indian fans were eagerly waiting for will be played out right in the heart of the capital today.

The 21-year old Indian now has 4-5 record against Marin. The world number four was playing in his third successive India Open final and had lost to K Srikanth (2015) and Kento Momota (2016). And in the end it was that was what really counted in the 47-minute match.

Severe Weather Possible Monday
If you must travel, make sure to check the weather conditions, watches, warnings and advisories before venturing out the door. Winds will eventually turn southerly and that will help boost temperatures back into the 80s Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

"On-court we might be rivals but off-court we are very good friends and I am happy for her that she won as she was the better player on the day", the Spaniard added.

In the men's singles final, Denmark's Viktor Axelsen, seeded third, made light work of Taiwan's seventh seed Chou Tien Chen as he topped the podium by virtue of a 21-13, 21-10 success.

They called it the "battle of the decade" also the "clash of the titans", but the scoreline will fail you to believe Rio silver medalist PV Sindhu ran through her finals but that was not to be.

Not only is the destination country of each doubles title already known but it is also known that the women's doubles will give a first Superseries title to the victor.

The Indian reached game point when Marin found the net and she wrapped it up in no time with a body smash.

Men doubles: 4-Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo (Ina) bt 6-Ricky Karandasuwardi and Angga Pratama 21-11, 21-15.
