Twitter's Free Live Video Channel Debuts On Roku

It's now available as a channel for Roku. While the company has been steadily adding users to its service in recent years, it's still struggling to operate in a profitable manner and producing video content is its latest attempt at becoming a sustainable business. Not many folks are using the currently available Twitter for TV apps, but with Roku now in the mix, the platform's user database may grow to a competing extent. 13 percent of all smart TVs sold in the US are now Roku TVs, and Roku claims to have 13 million monthly active accounts across its streaming devices.

Twitter and Roku worked on the new app together, which is similar to those on other platforms, though it doesn't offer Periscope support. Twitter revealed its ambitious new plans to go all in on its content strategy during the company's first NewFront presentation. It has signed a slew of deals to livestream content from WNBA, MLB, NFL, PGA Tour, Player's Tribune, and news and entertainment deals with Verge, BuzzFeed, Cheddar, Viacom, Dick Clark Productions, Propagate, IMG Fashion, and Live Nation.

Twitter has been working hard on improving its video streaming offerings over the past few months.

Far Cry 3 Teaser Splits Fans In Half
It also linked to a picture of Far Cry 3 villain and fan favourite, Vaas, accompanied by his most famous line of dialogue. The post includes a picture of the Rook Island from Far Cry 3 with the caption "an island we never really left".

One of these deals included a pact with Bloomberg, which will start to broadcast a live streaming news network on Twitter from this autumn. Last year, Twitter also streamed a handful of National Football League games on its service though it since has lost the rights for the upcoming National Football League season to Amazon. Users can select any of the live events that are running, regardless if they're streaming at the same time. It allows access of Twitter's live streaming video from a Roku device, and users also can browse commentary via the Twitter timeline as they watch live events.

Roku pioneered streaming for the TV and aspires to power every TV in the world.
