Canadian connection: Drake meets Celine Dion at Billboards

Canadian connection: Drake meets Celine Dion at Billboards

Drake owned the night, breaking the record for most awards won in a single year (just surpassing Adele). The "Hotline Bling" singer won some of the night's biggest prizes, including the Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album for Views.

Cher thanked luck for her success as she was heralded as an icon at the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday.

She took the stage by storm with her classic hits "If I Could Turn Back Time" and "Believe".

It was a show-stopping performance, a standout acceptance speech - but for many on Twitter there was something about Cher that made for a much more important conversation topic.

Adele set her felled record in 2012 when she won awards including top artist, top female artist and top pop artist.

Drake, with trophies in his arms and at his feet, is the record-holder now, surpassing Adele's record previous year at the Billboard Music Awards.

Reds facing potential Champions League nightmare
The prize for winning the league is £38m, but even bottom club Sunderland will still be paid nearly £2m just for taking part. Arsenal nearly contributed to their own downfall to start the second half, as Nacho Monreal almost scored with a back pass.

One can only hope that Beckinsale found away to scratch that itch - perhaps with one of Drake's 13 pieces of new hardware? "And I've been doing it for 53 years". Performing her 1997 hit song, "My Heart Will Go On", Dion sounded just as good as she did in 1997, proving that she is one of music's greatest vocalist.

At various points, she was joined by Lil Wayne, DJ David Guetta and Jason Derulo.

The Toronto-based rapper is now the biggest victor ever, but Quebec-born singer, Celine Dion was the musical star of the event. The Chainsmokers picked up three honors in the early announcement.

With the low drama over who will win prizes, the Billboard gala instead offers musicians a wide television audience months after the U.S. entertainment industry's awards season. While the ceremony, which aired live on ABC, may have been short on awards presentations, there was no shortage of performances. Imagine Dragons will speak about Chris Cornell's influence on the band ahead of their performance. "Vanessa Hudgens, you look incredible tonight".
