Man arrested in theft of Portland train victim's ring

Moments after Rick Best was fatally stabbed on a TriMet train while defending two women, someone stole Best's wedding ring and backpack.

The crime shocked an already-traumatized community. Portland police told the newspaper that Best's backpack was stolen as he lay bleeding from his wounds, and that his wedding ring is also missing.

The suspect was caught on surveillance camera leaving the train carrying Best's backpack.

After being apprehended by police, Christian reportedly made a series of vile statements regarding the attack.

Some of Best's possessions ― including his wallet ― were missing from the backpack when officers recovered it. Tschaggeny is facing multiple charges, including second-degree theft and second-degree abuse of a corpse.

Police put the word out Thursday night, and by Friday morning the man had been arrested.

Hopefully, with Google latest security measure like Play Protect, this kind of malware will be detected sooner than later. The malicious apps found in the Google Play Store dealing with WannaCry is a rare occurrence and should never happen.

Police don't know who the other backpack belongs to. He was wearing a black T-shirt with an image of Marilyn Monroe and an American flag.

"Suspect in theft of property from Ricky Best has been apprehended", the Portland Police Department tweeted.

Best, Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, 23, and Micah David-Cole Fletcher, 21, all stepped in to stop the abuser - 35-year-old Jeremy Joseph Christian. In a Twitter update, the authorities commended Portland for its efforts and said that more details about the case will soon be released. Once arrested, Christian made shocking statements when he was put in the back of a police auto equipped with audio and video recording devices, according to an affidavit released Tuesday.

Police spokesman Pete Simpson said that the men had been attacked "viciously" by the suspect as they were trying to "de-escalate him and protect some other people on the train". One of the girls is Muslim and was wearing a hijab.

He said that they are hoping that the suspect will realize that what he took is priceless and return the items.
