ICE seeks custody of El Salvador man accused of murdering Muslim teenager

ICE seeks custody of El Salvador man accused of murdering Muslim teenager

A Georgia teenager died Tuesday, four days after investigators believe he accidentally shot himself, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said. Rather, the police said it was because of 22-year-old illegal immigrant Darwin Martinez Torres' road rage. Police said Torres became enraged while driving past a large group of Muslim teens, who perhaps had been walking in the roadway, and got out of his auto with a baseball bat.

Martinez Torres is being held without bail on a murder charge in the slaying of 17-year-old Nabra Hassanen. His anger over the encounter led to violence when he hit Nabra with a baseball bat.

Patrol officers were notified of the incident and began to investigate.

Torres is being held in Fairfax County jail.

"You can't just say, 'Oh, he didn't say anything against Islam, so no hate crime, '" he said. "It appears the suspect became so enraged over this traffic argument that it escalated into deadly violence", Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman Julie Parker said.

The police also believe Martinez Torres acted alone and said they are not looking for any other suspects.

This is a complex criminal investigation and we always strive to only release factual information. For what? We don't know this guy.

The fact that her alleged assailant was in the country illegally is being downplayed or ignored by most major media outlets. He could get up to 40 years in prison if convicted on the murder charge.

7 missing as US Navy ship collides with container ship off Japan
The US Navy ship had more than 200 sailors aboard, who would have been asleep in their berths at the time of the accident. The U.S. 7th Fleet said on its Facebook page that the collision was with Philippine-flagged merchant vessel ACX Crystal .

The remains were found in a pond in the 21500 block of Ridegtop Circle around 3 p.m.

Parker said there was no indication the attack near the All Dulles Area Muslim Society mosque early on Sunday was motivated by race or religion. The Commonwealth's law is not as comprehensive as measures in Maryland or D.C. that also cover bias related to gender, sexual orientation, disability and gender identity, according to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).

- Police are investigating whether a teenage girl who was killed near a Virginia mosque was sexually assaulted. Multiple sources have said the attacker wielded a baseball bat. Torres caught up with them in a nearby parking lot, got out of his vehicle and chased them, reaching Hassanen and hitting her with the bat; then, he put her in his auto and took her to another nearby location, where he assaulted her another time, Parker said.

"My daughter is dead, and I don't want anyone to feel what I feel, to lose your 17-year-old daughter ..."

It is still unclear what happened between the time Hassanen was first attacked and the recovery of her body, Wright said. Observant Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan, and since Ramadan this year overlaps with the summer solstice, and sunrise occurs well before 6 a.m., some Muslims will eat large meals in predawn hours. This annual observance is regarded as one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The other members of the group were helped by "community members", according to ADAMS, and directed back toward the mosque.

A preliminary hearing in the case is set for July 19 in Fairfax County.

"We are devastated and heartbroken as our community undergoes and processes this traumatic event". "We must come together to send an opposing message that all people, regardless of their religious or ethnic background, are safe, welcome and protected". "ADAMS has licensed counselors on site to assist anyone in need of counseling during these hard times", ADAMS officials said in a statement.

The police statements that Nabra's killing doesn't appear to be a hate crime drew many angry responses on Twitter. We don't hate anybody because of religion or color. "The Muslim community should know that we stand united with them during this extremely hard time".
