Stephens beats Venus, to face Keys in US Open final

Stephens beats Venus, to face Keys in US Open final

"I told her I wish there could have been a draw because I wish we would have both won", Stephens said. The experience may not be enough for Stephens but she has enough strength to be in the finals.

Keys created a chance to perhaps get back into the second set with Stephens serving at 4-0, 0-40, but a flurry of Stephens winners off all wings, including the volley, shut the door.

Stephens, who underwent foot surgery and missed 11 months of competitive play, was confident but patient from the start on Saturday in this matchup of two first-time Grand Slam finalists.

Williams has the opportunity to enter into her third major final of the season. She was serving at 30-all and came up with a dazzling passing shot down the line and went on to tie the set at 5. It could be as early as the grand slam that saw her beat the Open Era record earlier this year, the Australian Open. Stephens found a way to win despite losing the second set 0-6, having 10 more unforced errors than winners and not exactly serving well.

The world number 83, up from 957 in July has won 14 of her past 16 matches, reaching the semi-finals at US Open tune-ups in Toronto and Cincinnati. While Stephens had defeated Venus Williams in the semis while Keys outplayed CoCo Vandeweghe.

"To be honest, I'm definitely here to win my matches, not for consolations", she said.

Isaiah Thomas acknowledges trade in Instagram video
As additional compensation, the Celtics threw in a 2020 second-round pick, and the trade was completed. Following the trade, Brady texted Thomas to ask how he was handling the news.

"I don't think parents get enough credit".

"I have no words to describe what I'm feeling, what it took to get there", said the American after her victory.

One of those emerging stars, Stephens, was just four years old when her opponent Thursday night, Venus Williams, debuted here as a 17-year-old back in 1997.

"Maddy is one of my best friends, if not my best friend on tour, and I told her I would not have wanted to play anybody else", Stephens said.

The 23-time Grand Slam Champion then revealed on Twitter in April that she and fiancé Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, were pregnant with their first child and she would not play again this year.
