Amiens-Lille abandoned after barrier collapses

Amiens-Lille abandoned after barrier collapses

The stand at Amiens' Stade de la Licorne stadium collapsed midway through a match with Lille. Match stopped. Awaiting news of injuries.

French emergency services later reported 18 people had been hurt, three seriously.

Both teams were sent to the changing rooms as the match was halted initially before a French league official later said the game had been called off.

The incident occurred in the first half and play was stopped in the 16th minute as officials made a decision to suspend the tie in which Lille were 1-0 ahead in the northern French derby.

Russia's Putin says discussed Iraqi Kurds' vote with Erdogan
They both stressed the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of both Iraq and Syria , the sources said. The two leaders are expected to discuss the timing of troop deployment in the Syrian province.

The fixture was interrupted in the 16th minute and later abandoned after a fence separating fans from the pitch gave way as the visiting Lille supporters celebrated a goal by Fode Ballo-Toure.

"We are thinking strongly and primarily of our supporters", Lille CEO Marc Ingla wrote in a series of tweets. All but six - five Lille fans and a steward - were able to go home overnight.

Amiens president Bernard Joanni placed the blame on Lille supporters, claiming they purposely put excess pressure on the barrier.

Amiens said in a statement: "Amiens and its leadership wants to express its solidarity with the injured Lille supports and their family and assure that their health is more important than anything else".
