Saudi King Salman Heads to Russian Federation for Official Visit

Until 2014, oil income made up more than 90 percent of public revenues.

Russia has invited Turkmenistan to join the agreement between OPEC and non-OPEC countries to cut oil output, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said.

Saudi ruler Salman bin Abdulaziz will hold early talks about investing in Russian oil and gas when he visits Moscow this week, reports suggest.

In a post on Twitter, the official account of the kingdom's Foreign Ministry wrote, "Saudi Arabia allows women to drive".

The Saudi government has described the visit from October 4-7 as "historic", it being the first-ever official trip to Russian Federation by a sitting Saudi monarch.

"King Salman doesn't do courtesy calls".

Asked about ties with Riyadh during a panel discussion at an worldwide energy conference Wednesday, Putin responded that Moscow doesn't see close U.S. -Saudi relations as an obstacle for closer cooperation with the Saudis, and added that alliances tend to shift.

Saudi Arabia, the Arab world's largest economy, has since introduced social and economic reforms aimed at ending its historic dependence on oil prices. It was subsequently extended through March 2018. As of Tuesday midday, benchmark Brent crude was trading at $56.04 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $50.51 with concerns of an over-supply still at the forefront of investors' minds.
