Super NES Classic Edition has already been cracked

It has been tweeted by a Japanese trademark bot that Nintendo have filed a new trademark on the original Game Boy, originally released back in 1989, before going on to take the world by storm, ultimately becoming the then-best selling console of all-time.

The Japanese video game company filed a trademark in its home country on September 15, which included an image of the original 1989 Game Boy. Some of the trademarks could be to protect the "Nintendo Classic Mini Game Boy" brand or they could simply be to protect the Game Boy brand.

Still, it would appear Nintendo has made good on its promise to get more units into consumers' hands.

Turkey advances into Syria's Idlib in major offensive against jihadists
The spokesman noted that the establishment of a de-escalation zone in rebel-held Idlib Province would start in the coming days.

We don't have the time or the console to test this, but reports and videos say that the hack can let you add anywhere between 200 and 300 games to your console, which makes Nintendo's 21 look ridiculous. Why file this trademark now if not to prepare for a new system? There were 1,049 games released for the handheld, so Nintendo shouldn't have any trouble choosing a couple of dozen. Though its games would arguably be easier to emulate than those of the Nintendo 64, it'd be hard to create a miniature Game Boy that's affordable and true to the original and include a screen.

A trademark citing does not always mean a real product, but a fact that can't be denied is Nintendo's Classic Edition brand has enjoyed a massive success. The Game Boy was small enough as it was, thank you. That move seems even more likely as the 30th anniversary of the first Game Boy will happen in 2019.

Separately, there are reports that the Japanese company could be working on one more "Classic Edition", this time of the N64 console, which sold almost 33 million units during its availability from 1996-2003.
