Time marches backward from Daylight to Standard

Time marches backward from Daylight to Standard

Days before we "fall back" an hour, a special state commission has been discussing a change in time zones.

Some people enjoy the twice-yearly ritual of tinkering with time, feeling that "springing forward" or "falling back" helps to usher in a more seasonal atmosphere.

First, it is it called "daylight saving time" not "daylight savings time" as it is commonly called incorrectly. At the same time, those up and going early in the day will be happy for daylight ahead of 7 a.m.

Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and most of Arizona don't observe daylight saving time.

Astros Player Rebuked for Racist Gesture at World Series
Toronto's Kevin Pillar and Oakland's Matt Joyce were each banned for two games this season after making anti-gay comments. I have a lot of respect for Japan. "Japan opened my doors to the game of baseball and I didn't mean to offend them".

Alabamians and most of America get to do that every year, and it's happening again this weekend. However, any State can opt out of Daylight Saving Time by passing a State law.

The proposal stated: "The state of Montana rejects switching between standard time and daylight saving time and elects to remain on daylight saving time in Montana throughout the year". States can exempt themselves from participation. Indeed, some studies show it may increase energy usage, especially in warm climates where longer periods of sunlight now mean more people cranking the air conditioning later into the evening.

What countries follow Daylight Saving Time? University of California Santa Barbara economists calculated that Indiana's move to statewide daylight saving time in 2006 led to a 1-percent rise in residential electricity use through additional demand for air conditioning on summer evenings and heating in early spring and late fall mornings. Some Amish communities also choose not to participate in daylight saving time.
