Employee Who Shut Down Trump's Twitter Hailed As Hero

On last day at the firm, rogue employee shut down Trump's accountWASHINGTON ATwitter employee on the last day with the firm was responsible for taking down Donald Trump's account for 11 minutes, the social network said.

Trump was back on Twitter soon after the account was restored, and the employee did not send or alter any tweets. Twitter initially said the account had been "inadvertently deactivated due to human error", but later indicated it was done intentionally by a departing customer support employee.

They did so after government lawyers argued in papers three weeks ago that a court should conclude Trump can choose not to hear some voices in an online account he began when he was a private citizen. "I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact", he wrote.

Mr Trump has regularly used his Twitter account to post controversial comments about his political rivals in the USA and overseas, as well as on contentious issues.

A former employee told Buzzfeed "a lot" of workers have the capability to suspend accounts, though not many can fully deactivate them.

A Twitter spokeswoman referred to the company's earlier remarks, noting it is conducting an internal investigation into the matter. The person who shut down Mr. Trump's account was a contractor, the people said.

"It's one click if you have the rights to access the tool", the former employee said.

Feel like I need to re-evaluate my life choices after reflecting on my reaction to Trump's Twitter. Many commentators had earlier questioned Twitter's policies after Trump's controversial tweets did not lead to any temporary suspension.

The platform, alongside Google and Facebook, also spent the better part of the week testifying in congressional hearings about efforts to curb misuse, in part by hiring additional employees, according to the Times.

Trump's eight-year-old @realdonaldtrump account has almost 42 million followers.
