Apple acknowledges autocorrect bug in iOS 11.1

Apple acknowledges autocorrect bug in iOS 11.1

The bandaid lets users replace a capital "I" with a lowercase "i" - which will look odd, but not as odd as the freaky exclamation point-question mark combo.

Some Apple users with devices running iOS 11.1 are finding that typing the letter "I" autocorrects to an "A" with a unicode [?] symbol instead. You'll be able to configure introductory pricing on your in-app purchase page in iTunes Connect soon.

To create a new text replacement, go to Settings General Keyboard Text Replacement.

"For Phrase, type an upper-case 'I, '" Apple explains.

The bug replaces the letter "i" with an invisible character called Variation Selector 16, which is a code typically used to merge two characters together into an emoji, according to The Telegraph.

The autocorrect issue is believed to be exclusive to the iOS 11.1 software version, the website says, and affects the company's most recent smartphones - the iPhone 8 and X.

Apple has described a temporary fix for the problem on its website. TheCravin noted however, that when trying to copy the autocorrected text, the paste corrected the text back to "I".

The BBC has contacted Apple for comment.

User @mcwm tweeted: 'I have a $1,150 [£877] telephone that can't read the letter "i"'. This comes only weeks after the newest product in the line, Apple Watch Series 3, was struggling with cellular connectivity - perhaps the most important feature and selling point - before it even went on sale. A band of iPhone users and unofficial sleuths have eased our technological pain by finding several DIY solutions to the problem, saving us a trip to the Genius Bar and a headache.

It's not uncommon for new software to have bugs.
