Apple releases iOS 11.2 update early to fix 11.1.2 bug

Apple releases iOS 11.2 update early to fix 11.1.2 bug

Apple has published a support article where they urge users encountering the issue to follow steps to disable notifications in order to stop the crashes, then update to iOS 11.2 before turning notifications back on. She uses a meditation and mindfulness app that sends local notifications reminding her to keep calm and carry on - which was sending her phone into a decidedly not-calming cycle of restarts. Now the service is only available for users in the United States, though it is yet to be activated.

While that were the bugs fixes, the update also includes the highly anticipated Apple Pay Cash feature, and fast wireless charging support.

Users who haven't received the update yet can manually go to the General Settings Software update.

This comes well ahead of Apple's usual Tuesday release of iOS updates.

Releasing iOS 11.2 on a Friday night is a bit odd, but that might be because some iPhones keep rebooting themselves because of a time bug. Our condolences to the Apple Pay Cash team for having their feature release overshadowed by bug fix.

The iOS bug is the second big software blunder from Apple this week.

iPhone crashing? Widespread iOS date bug wreaks havoc on December 2
Apple releases iOS 11.2 with 'I.T' autocorrect fix, faster wireless charging and Apple Pay Cash

Apparently, there is a bug in iOS 11.1.2 that is causing iPhones to crash if third-party apps use recurring notifications.

It seems like the new operating system takes care of another annoying issue which caused Siri to bug out at times. But the real fix is to install iOS 11.2. "This was really bad", wrote Reddit user KarlKrum.

If that's too vague for iPhone users to understand, look for workout apps, medication reminder and similar apps that require local/scheduled notifications.

Apple doesn't disable those features so that you can connect your Apple Watch or Apple Pencil, enable Personal Hotspot from another device and use Wi-Fi for more accurate location features.

-After updating, tap Settings Notifications and turn Allow Notifications on again for each app.
