Former USA Gymnastics Doctor Sentenced To 60 Years For Child Pornography

Former USA Gymnastics Doctor Sentenced To 60 Years For Child Pornography

The letters provided chilling and disturbing detail of the psychological toll Nassar's alleged sexual abuse took on the two-time Olympic gold medallist and former member of the "fierce five" women's gymnastics team from the 2012 London Olympics.

According to ESPN.com, Judge Janet T. Neff told Nassar at his sentencing that he used his position of authority to sexually assault young women during his career as a doctor with US gymnastics and Michigan State University, thus violating the most basic principle of medicine.

This federal case is separate from the criminal cases in Ingham and Eaton Counties, where the former MSU team physician who also worked with athletes at Twistars USA Gymnastics Club in Dimondale and at USA Gymnastics has entered guilty pleas in ten cases in recent weeks. "Dr. Nassar told me that I was receiving 'medically necessary treatment that he had been performing on patients for over 30 years, '" Maroney said in a victim statement to Neff. At 14, she made the National Team and was introduced to Nassar. "She said to me, 'Mom I thought I was going to die'". "Because the National Team training camps did not allow parents to be present, my mom and dad were unable to observe what Nassar was doing, and this has imposed a bad and undeserved burden of guilt on my loving family".

Women accused Nassar of assaulting them at a campus clinic at Michigan State, at local gyms across the country, at the Karolyi Ranch outside Houston, and at global competitions around the globe, including the 2000 Summer Games in Sydney, and the 2012 Summer Games in London. The judge presiding over the case has said she will read the letters privately. She was only 15 years old. "He abused my trust, abused my body and left scars on my psyche that may never heal", she wrote. "At times, I was unsure whether I would open her bedroom door and find her dead".

Investigators said he possessed more than 37,000 videos and images of child pornography.

Senate OKs tax bill on 51-49 vote
Unlike the House bill, for example, the Senate bill would end the insurance mandate at the core of the Affordable Care Act. The bill is "removed from the reality of what the American people need", said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

A former elite sports doctor whose sexual assault cases have rocked Michigan State University and the group that trains U.S. Olympic gymnasts was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in federal prison for possessing thousands of images of child pornography.

Some of the Maroneys' most cutting words went to Team USA and Michigan State, which previously employed Nassar.

Michigan State has vehemently denied any allegations of covering up Nassar's behavior.

According to court documents, prosecutors have asked for a 60-year sentence for Nassar on the child pornography charges.
