Unemployment steady as Maryland adds 5400 jobs in November

New Mexico's unemployment rate remained unchanged in November at 6.1 percent, notably less than the 6.7 percent logged for the same period previous year. The number of unemployed was down 3,600 over the year to 23,100.

The national rate was 4.1 percent in November, unchanged from October, and down from 4.6 percent in November 2016.

State Labor Commissioner John Albin says employment has increased each of the past six months, setting records each month since August to reach last month's 984,197.

The unemployment rate was below the statewide average in the Portland-South Portland (2.4 percent) metro area and close to the average in the Lewiston-Auburn (2.7 percent) and Bangor (2.9 percent) metro areas.

Virginia's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was up a slight 0.1 percentage point in November to 3.7 percent, but was down 0.4 percentage point from a year ago.

Nebraska was tied with New Hampshire for the third-lowest unemployment rate in the country, trailing only Hawaii and North Dakota.
