Woman, 19, killed when auto crashes into a utility pole

Woman, 19, killed when auto crashes into a utility pole

Assistant Chief Ernest Sanchez said at at a Monday morning press conference that a speeding red Cadillac hit the back of the patrol vehicle Camilleri and Velasquez were in, reports CBS San Francisco.

The man, who "chose to be irresponsible" and is hospitalized in serious condition, will face a slew of felony charges upon his release from the hospital, Sanchez said.

The crash happened Sunday night, Christmas Eve, on Interstate 880 in Hayward. Camilleri, who was in the right front seat, died at the hospital.

Andrew Camilleri, 33, was married and had three children who expected their father to come home and help them open Christmas presents, said Asst.

The CHP declined to release the name of the driver who hit the patrol vehicle.

"It's definitely not the way we wanted the community to think of the 2017 Christmas Day holiday", Sanchez said.

Flu season likely to peak in the coming weeks
Randall Williams said, "We know that historically, the intensity or prevalence of flu can vary from year to year". The more people who get it, he said, the less likely there will be a serious flu problem in the country.

Walcott said the driver who hit the patrol auto was taken to a hospital.

A blue 2007 Nissan hit a power pole on the south end of Avenue 280, just east of Road 52 in Tulare County, and left the woman dead, the CHP said.

"The effect was severe to the point that it transformed an utility vehicle into a conservative vehicle", Sanchez said at a Christmas morning news meeting.

Gov. Jerry Brown said in a statement that he is "deeply saddened" by Camilleri's death.

Both Officer Camilleri and his partner were injured and taken to a hospital were Camilleri later died, according to California Highway Patrol.

"We join his family, friends and the entire California Highway Patrol in mourning his death and honoring his sacrifice", Brown said. Velasquez suffered minor injuries and will recover physically.
