David Letterman returns next week with Obama as his first Netflix guest

Above is the first teaser trailer for the series, titled My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.

Netflix has been pushing its comedy offerings hard lately, airing exclusive specials from Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Amy Schumer, and others, but My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman will be a different kind of beast.

Additionally, the streaming media giant said Friday that Letterman's new series, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, would also feature other influential interviewees including George Clooney, Jay-Z, Tina Fey, Howard Stern, and Nobel Peace Price victor Malala Yousafzai.

The booking is a huge win for Letterman and Netflix since it will be Obama's first television talk show appearance since leaving office.

Produced by RadicalMedia and Letterman's Worldwide Pants, Incorporated, for Netflix, each 60-minute episode of My Next Guest is centered around "one extraordinary figure whom Letterman finds fascinating". Obama's episode - which marks the former Commander in Chief's first talk-show appearance since leaving office - will be released on January 12; subsequent episodes will follow monthly. In addition, Letterman will participate in field segments to dig deeper on a specific topic related to the guest featured in the episode.

Netflix is serious about launching David Letterman's new six-episode, one-hour talk show series.

Ready for your first look at David Letterman's new talk show? He ended a storied 33-year run in late-night TV that began with his 1982-1993 residency on NBC's "Late Night".
