Lions coaching candidate Matt Patricia favors New York Giants, report says

Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the frontrunner for the New York Giants head coaching vacancy, according to a report by the New York Daily News.

While Leonard did not get into too many specifics as to which signs were pointing to Patricia heading to the Big Apple, he did point out that Patricia would prefer to go to the Giants over the Lions. Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, Green Bay Packers associate head coach Winston Moss and current offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter have interviewed for the job.

As head coaching openings are starting to be filled around the league, the Detroit Lions, New York Giants, Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals are still looking.

This certainly doesn't meant he Lions have lost out or will lose out on their top choice.

Patricia was on the sidelines for both of them, first as the Patriots' linebackers coach and then as their safeties coach.

John Dickerson replacing Charlie Rose at 'CBS This Morning'
Months after Rose's departure from the network, CBS News also fired former political director Steve Chaggaris from the network. Dickerson joined CBS News in April 2009 as an analyst and contributor to all of the network's broadcasts and platforms.

Patricia, 43, interviewed with the Giants on Friday after team representatives traveled to Foxborough to interview he and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Patricia earned a bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he played as an offensive lineman.

Best case for the Lions if they are zeroed in on Patricia is for the Giants to never make an offer. That being said, head coaching searches have a way of settling in even as top candidates remain active in the playoffs.

Patricia and the Patriots face the Titans in the AFC Divisional Round on Saturday.

Players love Carolina defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, who interviewed with the Giants on Tuesday, and he could be the calming guy to fix a divided and mercenary NY team. The longer he, or another available candidate, doesn't fill that job, the more nervous the Lions front office should feel.
