Winter storm watch issued for OH from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning

The winter weather really ramps up Thursday into Friday, the Weather Service said.

A trough of low pressure from the Northwest will settle over the valley Monday, bringing a storm system that will drop inches of rain and snow, said Cory Mueller, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

A year ago more than 61 inches of snow fell on Spokane in the winter.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS.Winds gusting as high as 45 miles per hour could cause whiteout conditions in blowing snow. Outside of this area, 1 to 3 inches can be expected. The precipitation is expected to change to all snow by Thursday morning.

Rain will start in the Sacramento area around 5 a.m. and continue throughout the day, with temperatures staying in the mid 50's. The strongest winds will be found from west central to south central Minnesota where winds could gust to 40 miles per hour.

Snow will begin in northwestern Kansas around 10 PM, with rain showers out ahead of that for central Kansas. "We still anticipate a Northwest Alabama into Middle Tennessee event; however, there is enough "wiggle room" that light accumulations (less than 2") are possible as far southeast as Interstate 59 in Etowah and DeKalb Counties. This could lead to blowing and drifting of snow. Those with travel plans across the area should pay close attention to later forecasts as snow amounts and location could change.WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON. Coupled with high winds, travel could become extremely risky if not impossible.
