Flight Takes Off In 2018. Lands In 2017

Then, the eight-hour flight landed at its destination of Honolulu, Hawaii at 10:16 a.m. local time on December 31, 2017.

The scheduling curiosity was pointed out online by ABC7 transportation reporter Sam Sweeney, who described it as "time travel".

Flight number HA446 of Hawaiian Airlines was originally scheduled to depart on December 31, 2017, but following a delay the flight took-off on January 1, 2018.

As we cross over into 2018, a Hawaiian Airlines flight reminds us that time is actually fake. According to the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology, Hawaii is in a time zone that is 10 hours behind Coordinated Universal Time. Eight hours later, when it landed in Honolulu, it was still December 31, 2017. However, the flight was delayed due to some operational issue, which led the flight to take off at 12:05 am - a time by which the world had started welcoming 2018. The post has since been shared over 14,000 times. But because of the minor delay, the passengers got to ring in the new year one extra time.

One Twitter user wrote: "Even more impressive is NZ8 that I was on last night".

FlightRadar, a Twitter account that reports air traffic updates, noted that six aircraft took off from Taipei, Taiwan in 2018 but landed in North American cities in the previous year.
