Micromax Bharat Go Android Oreo Go Edition Smartphone Launching This Month

Domestic handset maker Micromax is set to launch the first smartphone in India with Google's Android Oreo (Go Edition) by the end of this month, the company announced on Monday.

The skinned-down OS is optmised for low-end devices with 512MB to 1GB RAM; plus, a Go version will feature several enhancements. Google had announced Android Go during the opening keynote of the I/O developers conference in 2017.

Smartphone major HTC announced that those with an unlocked HTC U11 device will now be able to install Android's latest release, Oreo, starting today.

The Android Oreo Go will come preinstalled with only nine apps including, YouTube Go, Google Maps Go, Gmail Go, Google Go, Google Play, Chrome and also Files Go. The average app is 15% faster on an Android Go device and the pre-installed apps (Go edition ones) are also optimized and take up to 50% less storage space.

John Dickerson replacing Charlie Rose at 'CBS This Morning'
Months after Rose's departure from the network, CBS News also fired former political director Steve Chaggaris from the network. Dickerson joined CBS News in April 2009 as an analyst and contributor to all of the network's broadcasts and platforms.

For those unaware, Android Oreo (Go Edition) is a lightweight version of Android which is meant for entry-level smartphones that have 1 GB or less than 1 GB of RAM. Further, Google has created a new section that recommends popular apps that are tuned to run well on entry-level smartphones.

For the Android Go program, and hence phones like Bharat Go to really succeed, the phones will have to undercut the likes of Moto C significantly. An earlier report had claimed that the Micromax Bharat Go will be priced at Rs. 2,000. We should get more information about other brands soon.

In all, Android Go is aimed at creating a new class of less capable smartphones that will also cost a lot less. Bharat is the company's existing series of devices focused on lower-tier of the market and for first-time smartphone buyers.
