Flu-associated hospitalizations in Cuyahoga County are at 794, which is a decrease from last season, the collaborative reported. As of January 6, Oakland County has more than 950 reported flu cases since October 1, 2017. The Centers for Disease Control classifies the flu outbreak in Texas this year as widespread.

Symptoms of the flu can include a sudden onset of fever, dry cough, headache, muscle aches, tiredness, sore throat and nasal congestion or stuffiness, according to DHEC.

The previous deadliest flu season was in 2014-2015, when 97 people died.
