Facebook to Let Users Rank Credibility of News

Facebook to Let Users Rank Credibility of News

According to a post on Zuckerberg's Facebook page, the social media platform will "will now ask people whether they're familiar with a news source and, if so, whether they trust that source" in its quality surveys.

Facebook recently announced that they will make changes to its news feed so that media content will no longer be as widespread as always.

The group said that they would ask the social network community to discern which news outlets are reliable, as this would be more objective.

This is being done to cut down the volume of fake news reports being circulated online, particularly on the social media.

Last week I announced a major change to encourage meaningful social interactions with family and friends over passive consumption.

"There's too much sensationalism, misinformation and polarization in the world today", Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.

Zuckerberg says that some news organizations 'are only broadly trusted by their readers or watchers, and others are broadly trusted across society even by those who don't follow them directly.' But this is complicated.

Zorc said the following in a statement to German media outlets, transcript via Kicker . I'd be informed about changes, and he's part of my plans.

Reuters/Brian SnyderFacebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks to reporters at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

It also said it would put an emphasis on local news sources.

This News Feed change is not the same as a recent test Facebook did where it moved all Page content to the Explore tab. It will use those scores, along with other factors, to decide how much to show a source in people's news feeds. "We could try to make that decision ourselves, but that's not something we're comfortable with", he wrote. It will either resort in a profusion of exaggerated or fabricated stories flooding into users' news feeds or it will is result in complaints about Facebook's perceived unfairness to conservatives.

"This update will not change the amount of information you see on Facebook".

Facebook has announced sweeping changes to the way content will be shown on your News Feed, meaning you will see less articles and videos from publishers.

The quality of news on Facebook has been called into question after alleged Russian operatives, for-profit spammers and others spread false reports on the site, including during the 2016 United States election campaign.

In his post, Zuckerberg indicated that the "news quality" survey was his attempt to remove the company from making value judgments about media outlets and to avoid consultation with "outside experts", whose objectivity would invariably be questioned.
