After Redskins trade for Smith, cornerback becomes an immediate need

After Redskins trade for Smith, cornerback becomes an immediate need

The transaction itself, however, can not be completed until March 14 at 3 p.m., the first day of the new league year.

The Redskins acquired Alex Smith from the Chiefs for corner Kendall Fuller and a third round pick.

Alex Smith #11 of the Kansas City Chiefs calls out the play in the fourth quarter against the New York Giants on November 19, 2017 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Looking at the graphic, with Alex Smith's numbers being on the left and Kirk Cousins' being on the right, according to past year at least, the Redskins and fantasy owners will be getting the same quarterback for all intents and purposes.

Clearly Smith has been in the know for some time because he'd already worked out a reported four-year contract extension by the time details of the trade has also leaked.

Still, the Redskins were an impossible long-shot to re-sign Cousins and have found a reliable franchise passer in Smith, who finds himself in a much better position. The deal includes a whopping $71 million guaranteed.

One of the biggest stories of the National Football League offseason will be the future home of Washington Redskins quarterback and Pro Bowler Kirk Cousins.

Sun Life Financial INC boosted its holdings in shares of Freeport-McMoRan by 96,340.0% in the 2nd quarter. (NYSE: FCX ). Its up 0.19, from 0.95 in 2017Q2. 55 funds opened positions while 102 raised stakes. (NASDAQ:NEWS) for 197,669 shares.

There is still no word, however, on whether or not Browns general manager John Dorsey went home at 5 p.m. and missed out on trading for a quarterback that he worked with while in Kansas City. A number of teams, including the Jets, Broncos, Browns, Dolphins, Cardinals, Bills etc. are all potential landing spots. If they are able to be paired with a high draft pick (say, Saquon Barkley) and some stability at the quarterback position, the Browns offense could make some noise in the coming seasons.

Instead, the Browns will have their choice from one the deepest quarterback draft classes we've seen in a while-they hold the No. 1 overall pick, the No. 4 overall pick, three second-rounders, and 12 picks overall in the 2018 NFL Draft.

A trade puts everyone in a frenzy, especially the athletes potentially involved in it. Washington cornerback Kendall Fuller found out the hard way.

Cousins has been the biggest question hovering over Washington's offseason - and, indeed, hovering over the whole organization for a couple of years as the team failed to sign him to a long-term deal.

So, the Chiefs likely made the decision to trade Smith months ago, and then it became a matter of maximizing their return this offseason. He's 50-26 the past five years for Kansas City. Wow.

At 10:45 p.m., Fuller responded to the tweet with one word. He had one year remaining on his contract with a salary cap charge of $20.6 million.

There are rumblings that Jacksonville will bring back Blake Bortles on his $19 million fifth-year option, but wouldn't they be better off with Cousins?
