Steven Bochco 'NYPD Blue,' 'LA Law' creator dead at 74

A family spokesman told CNN that the 10-time Emmy Award victor died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning surrounded by loved ones after battling leukemia for years.

A transplant in late 2014 was credited with prolonging Bochco's his life. Details of his death were unclear on Sunday morning.

Bochco worked with different collaborators, to co-create some of TV's most popular series for more than 20 years.

Steven Bochco was 74 years old. He gained recognition as the unconventional, determined, one-of-a-kind creative force that created massive hit series like the aforementioned NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues, as well as Doogie Howser, M.D. and L.A. Law.

Bochco had been suffering with cancer for some time.

Finally India, Pak agree to resolve diplomatic row
In case of breach of code, the agreement required an intimation to be sent to the high commission before lodging a formal protest. It turned ugly when the children of Pakistani diplomats while on way to their schools were stopped and harassed.

Despite working behind the scenes, Bochco enjoyed a high public profile before it was necessarily fashionable for TV showrunners to do so.

"L.A. Law" (1986-94) and "NYPD Blue" (1993-2005) followed, with both shows enjoying long prime-time runs. Bochco replaced him with former "L.A. Law" co-star Jimmy Smits, and the program went on to run 11 years.

"We had so many characters that we realized we couldn't service 10 or 11 characters within the confines of a single episode, so the only way that we could really do justice to the size of the world was by creating storylines that spilled over the margins", he told the New York Times. His 1990 show, "Cop Rock" - an attempt at a police musical - was a legendary flop. - also expressed paid respects on Twitter, recalling times he spent at Bochco's home as a child.

He was born in NY to Rudolph, a violinist, and Mimi, a painter and jewellery designer. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University with a theater degree in 1966. The show received 98 Emmy nominations during its seven-year fun, and won Bochco his first two Primetime Emmys in 1981 for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series.

His big break came when he wrote the screenplay for the 1972 sci-fi film "Silent Running". He produced NBC's Bay City Blues in 1983, and CBS' vice squad comedy Public Morals, which lasted one episode. But the series won a slew of Emmys, and saw its audience surge when NBC introduced "The Cosby Show" in 1984, turning its lineup into a start-to-finish powerhouse. Director Joss Whedon tweeted, "Absolutely one of the biggest influences on Buffy (and me) was HILL STREET BLUES".
