Kim Jong-un could unleash 'UNIMAGINABLE DEVASTATION' if diplomacy fails

Kim Jong-un could unleash 'UNIMAGINABLE DEVASTATION' if diplomacy fails

Although the North Korean regime has not publicly declared its invitation by Kim Jong Un to meet with Trump, which was conveyed last month by a South Korean envoy, several officials say North Korea has since acknowledged Trump's acceptance, and Pyongyang has reaffirmed Kim is willing to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula.

Last month, China said it won a pledge from Kim, who was on a surprise visit to Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, to denuclearize the Korean peninsula.

USA and North Korean officials have reportedly been hashing out terms of the agreement through back channels led by CIA Director Mike Pompeo - Trump's nominee to replace Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

China, North Korea's only major ally and main economic lifeline, has been calling for a "dual suspension" of North Korean nuclear and missile activities in return for the United States and South Korea suspending their large-scale military exercises.

The timeline for the Trump-Kim summit remains unknown although the South Korean side have said that it would take place by May.

Dianne Feinstein, who represents the district where Tuesday's shooting occurred, expressed disbelief at the latest development. San Bruno Police Chief Ed Barberini told reporters the deceased woman had died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Journal report follows a CNN report on Saturday saying Washington and Pyongyang were in direct communication in secret to prepare for the upcoming summit between Kim and President TrumpDonald John TrumpBaldwin returns to "SNL" as Trump and admits presidency is just "a four- year cash grab" Maxine Waters: Republicans "intimidated" by Trump Trump: Pruitt "doing a great job" MORE.

The announcement comes after a year of tension between the U.S., North Korea and South Korea.

.

But the fact that the US has confirmed North Korea's willingness to even discuss denuclearization is a positive step toward the Trump-Kim meeting actually taking place, and suggests they are communicating directly in preparation for it.

North Korea has confirmed directly to the Trump administration that it is willing to negotiate with the United States over potential denuclearisation, administration officials said. The representatives of the U.S. and North Korea have already met in a third country. South Korean President Moon Jae-in plans to meet with Kim at the end of April in the demilitarised zone between the North and South.

China and Russian Federation are both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, which has imposed sanctions on North Korea in a bid to force negotiations with Pyongyang.
