Russian Federation says it warned USA of 'grave repercussions' if Syria attacked

Russian Federation says it warned USA of 'grave repercussions' if Syria attacked

Three Iranians were killed in an air strike on a Syrian air base near Homs on Sunday, Iran's Fars news agency said, as Syria and its main ally Russian Federation blamed Israel for carrying out the attack.

Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency put the number of Iranians killed in the missile attack at seven.

Syrian businessman Ghassan Aboud, founder of the Syrian opposition Orient TV channel and the Orient for Human Relief Organization, said his organization had held discussions with Israeli government officials, as well as with Israelis working for humanitarian organizations in an effort to provide aid for the people of southern Syria.

A defense force in Syria reported that several families were killed by poisonous gas in regions of Douma and Easter Ghouta while many more were hiding out and trying to escape being suffocated by the gas. President Donald Trump has vowed to respond "forcefully" to Saturday's attack on civilians in the town of Douma, in the eastern Ghouta suburbs, and warned that Russian Federation - or any other nation found to share responsibility - will "pay a price".

Iran is one of Assad's strongest backers and has sent thousands of troops and allied militiamen to support his forces. It said the missiles were launched at the T4 air base, in central Homs Governorate.

The base, which was used as a launching pad for attacks against Islamic State militants who were at one point stationed nearby, is near the Shayrat air base, which was targeted by USA missiles a year ago in response to a chemical weapons attack.

However Trump laid the blame firmly at the feet of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad and his chief backers, echoing similar statements from the European Union and Turkey.

The Observatory gave a higher death toll, saying at least 80 people were killed in Douma, including around 40 who died from suffocation.

After clobbering the right-arm pacer for a six over long-on, Narine made room and struck two straight fours on the off side. He took some deliveries to get his eye in and played a few crafty shots to keep the pressure away in the tight chase.

Monday's missile attack followed a suspected poison gas attack on Saturday on the last remaining foothold for the Syrian opposition in the eastern suburbs of Damascus.

Russian Federation and Syria both offered during the U.N. Security Council meeting on Monday to take OPCW investigators to Douma.

"The army, which is advancing rapidly and with determination, does not need to use any kind of chemical agents", the statement said.

Nebenzia alleged that the anti-government forces had chemical weapons and could stage an attack.

The Russian military said on Monday its medics had examined patients in a hospital in Douma and had found no traces of a chemical attack, Interfax news agency reported.

Guterres's Speical Envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, told the Council via a video link from Geneva that the terrorist group Jaish al-Islam that was in control of Douma had asked for United Nations intervention, but the Syrian government did not respond to it.

The symptoms were consistent with chemical exposure.

It marks Assad's most significant victory over the rebellion against his rule since 2016, and underlines his unassailable position in the conflict.
