Kevin Durant's Contract Plans For Offseason Are Revealed

Kevin Durant's Contract Plans For Offseason Are Revealed

Kevin Durant will become a free agent this summer, but he's reportedly not going anywhere.

The Golden State forward intends to decline his player option for next season, then re-sign with the Warriors this summer, ESPN's Chris Haynes reported Tuesday night.

If Durant wants a long-term deal, he could look at a four-year, $158 million contract, speculates NBC's ProBasketballTalk.

In the absence of Curry, the Warriors are clearly Durant's team, meaning if one does not fear the Warriors without Curry, that directly means they do not fear Durant as he would have more than enough help to add a second ring to his resumé. That statement represents the "what" about Durant's future plans, and Haynes' report begins to answer the "how?"

We also go over Quinn Cook talking about his new two-year deal after bouncing back and forth between the National Basketball Association and G-League.

However negotiations pan out, expect the roots Durant has planted in the Bay Area to continue spreading and the Warriors to remain among the NBA's elite teams.

"I just feel like there was so much movement in our lineups", said the former MVP, according to Anthony Slater of The Athetic.

He can agree to a three-year deal with a player option after the second season. His annual pay would be $35.3 million, $38.2 million, $41 million and $43.8 million.

Durant and business partner Rich Kleiman will go over the scenarios in detail after the conclusion of the season. Meanwhile, Durant, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green were all also felled by multi-game and/or multi-week ailments in March, while others like Patrick McCaw and Andre Iguodala have yet to play in April thanks to injuries of their own. Since there are no real incentives for Durant or for his team to take such a drastic reduction in pay this time around, it is therefore justified that Durant opt-out to seek for a better contract this time around.
