Uber details new rider security features and driver background checks

Uber is adding a button to its ride-share app that will call 911 in cases of emergency, as the company seeks to upgrade safety for its passengers and drivers.

In a FTC press release, the agency said the breach - which was not revealed until November 2017 - occurred in the fall of 2016 and was the result of "lax security choices Uber made in its use of the third-party cloud storage service". In addition, commuters will be able to optimise their travel, as Uber Movements will explain the effects of congestion and traffic build-up, while providing alternative transport modes.

In other Uber news, the FTC says the company agrees to expand its proposed settlement over Uber hiding the data breach from customers. "And while there's been a lot of progress, we're committed to doing more".

Uber Plans Public Transit and Car Rental App Options On Wednesday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the companys partnership with Getaround, a peer-to-peer car sharing startup.

"We've also announced that Jeh Johnson, who is a former secretary of Homeland Security, a pre-eminent safety expert, is going to be running, chairing our safety council, which will help us get better and better and better in this regard".

Zidane defends out-of-form Benzema ahead of Juventus tie
Raphel Varane will start against Juventus but Sergio Ramos is suspended and Nacho Fernandez is still out with a hamstring injury. However, they will be without midfielders Paulo Dybala and Rodrigo Bentancur through suspension.

After the announcement of last year's proposed settlement, the Commission learned that Uber had failed to disclose a significant breach of consumer data that occurred in 2016 - in the midst of the FTC's investigation that led to the August 2017 settlement announcement.

The FTC said Uber employees in 2014 improperly accessed consumer data - and although Uber developed an automated system for monitoring employee access to personal information, it stopped using it after less than a year.

Under the revised settlement, Uber could be subject to civil penalties if it fails to notify the FTC of future incidents, and it must submit audits of its data security, the agency said.

"After misleading consumers about its privacy and security practices, Uber compounded its misconduct", said Acting FTC Chairman Maureen Ohlhausen.
