Trump asks African nations to support 2026 World Cup bid

President Donald Trump's tweet about North America's bid for the 2026 World Cup, which could include games played in Philadelphia, caused Federation Internationale de Football Association to point to its guidelines about not using political influence to try and secure the event.

"We will be watching very closely and any help that they could give us in that bid we would appreciate".

The three-nation bid is widely seen as the favorite to host the 2026 World Cup, but speculation has increased that some of the Trump administration's controversial actions on immigration will shift global support to Morocco.

As Reuters noted, those regulations warn against competing government's participating in activities "that may adversely affect the fairness of the Bidding Procedure and/or may cause any undue influence on the outcome of the Bidding Procedure".

Trump recently expressed his desire for other nations to support the U.S. -led World Cup bid on social media, tweeting: "The U.S. has put together a STRONG bid w/ Canada & Mexico for the 2026 World Cup".

"Why should we be supporting these countries when they don't support us (including at the United Nations)" Trump asked in his tweet, suggesting that foreign policy under Trump is essentially-perhaps only-guided by a tit-for-tat philosophy.

Trump has been vocal amid a bid put together by USA, Canada and Mexico to stage the showpiece tournament in North America in eight years' time.

Here Comes Facebook's Annual Apps Fest. There's Just One Problem
Facebook , and their CEO, have said that GDPR is helpful because it will set a global standard. The ongoing process is testing Facebook's developer relationships.

"From the beginning, we have received strong support from the Canadian, Mexican and United States governments".

Last week Trump issued a veiled threat against nations that may align in voting blocs against the North American bid.

The North American bid boasts large stadiums and excellent infrastructure but is no certainty to win the June vote.

The North African country with long coastlines along the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea previously bid for the World Cup in 1994, 1998, 2006 and 2010.

Trump did not specify which countries he was referring to, but it is widely expected that Morocco will have the support of virtually the entire African continent and a great bloc of Middle Eastern countries. All 206 votes from member nations will be made public.

Trump's remarks on Monday came after he articulated a desire for Nigeria to remove trade barriers to allow additional U.S. investment in the African nation.
