White House: Giuliani adds value to Trump team

White House: Giuliani adds value to Trump team

Trevor Noah enlisted The Daily Show Senior Legal Analyst Michael Kosta to explain Rudy Giuliani's "Scumbag Defense" of President Donald Trump.

Instead of doubling-down on damage control for his client, Giuliani doubled-down on doing more damage in another disastrous interview.

Trump was reportedly irritated by Giuliani's Sunday interview with ABC's "This Week", during which the lawyer left the door open to the idea that Trump had been involved in more payoffs to women aside from the $130,000 hush-money payment to the adult-film actress Stormy Daniels.

According to the Associated Press, the president "is growing increasingly irritated" with Giuliani's "frequently off-message media blitz". Among the president's concerns is that Giuliani's comments are elevating the media's coverage of Daniels.

"The president brought Rudy Giuliani, his longtime friend, on because he thought he was going to be able to help bring this Russian Federation investigation to an end much more quickly with more aggressive approach, something that matched the way that the president wanted to go after this", she said.

Shameful: France angry over Trump's remarks on Paris attacks
The Los Angeles Times reports that Trump referenced the attack as proof that gun control does not control bad people. Donald Trump gestures after speaking at a National Rifle Association (NRA) convention in Dallas.

Hannity asked Giuliani, who claimed the Daniels' payout did not violate campaign laws, if the payment was not a problem because "they funneled it through the law firm?" Giuliani tells Stephanopoulos, "You know, I'm not really involved in the - in the Daniels thing". I mean, he denies that it happened. "He's very comfortable with the strategy we're pursuing".

Ever since he began to represent Trump as part of the ongoing probe into Russia, Giuliani has attracted a wave of controversy and shock announcements.

Giuliani also alienated a number of people in Trump's inner circle by insisting that the only Cabinet position he would consider would be secretary of state.

But many Trump allies both inside and outside the White House have grown anxious in recent days about Giuliani's whirlwind and unpredictable interviews. His original instincts are proving to be correct.
