Alphabet-owned YouTube will launch a new music streaming service on 22 May. Google now has an existing service called Google Play Music that will be fazed out and absorbed by YouTube Music and those members will gain access to the new service when that rolls out.
The service is all about "putting music in one place".
YouTube Red was launched back in 2015 and it charges users $9.99 a month to stream content without ads, download videos for offline viewing and watch Red original shows.
Subscribers will also get a new mobile app and a new desktop player, both of which are optimized for music listening.
The platform will benefit from having users' existing YouTube history, meaning it can provide accurate recommendations from the start. That'll get you ad-free music, background listening, and downloads.
The other four countries in which it is taking on Spotify and Apple Music are the US, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea. For instance, Play Music lets you upload your personal MP3 collection and listen to it free.
