Juncker gets Gaelic games jersey reflecting European unity as Ireland souvenir

With just four months to go before the deadline for a Brexit deal, he warned: "The hardest parts are still to do and there is not much time left to find a concrete agreement".

"We have Ireland backed by 26 member states and the commission - this will not change".

"The European Council expresses its concern that no substantial progress has yet been achieved on agreeing a backstop solution for Ireland/Northern Ireland", the draft conclusions, seen by Reuters, said.

Earlier today, Barnier stated that the EU has advanced on "some separation issues" for which European businesses need certainty - such as customs, Value-Added Tax and certificates for goods.

Claiming there is "clearly a great deal of work" remaining to be done in Brexit negotiations, Mr Coveney said: "Our strong preference remains an overall EU-UK future relationship which would resolve all issues".

Serious differences remain over how to deal with the border between Northern Ireland and the Republic after Brexit, Brussels has warned.

"Sunday's meeting isn't a mini-summit but an informal working meeting", Juncker said in a press conference with French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

"Today's address not only afforded us the opportunity to hear directly from President Juncker, it also allowed for an honest and frank exchange of views across the parliament".

Jean-Claude Juncker's visit comes ahead of next week's key European Council meeting.

Phil Mickelson sparks controversy by hitting still moving ball in US Open
Mickelson, who will have an early tee time, thinks a similar charge isn't out of the realm of possibility. During the third round of the US Open , the five-time major champion had one of his worst career rounds.

"The most important aspect of the withdrawal agreement for us is the backstop, and Prime Minister May committed in March that there would be a backstop and outlined in December what that backstop would contain".

In a joint statement, the Scottish and Welsh leaders said quitting was not in the national interest and urged Theresa May to secure a Norway-style solution in the European Union exit talks.

"I will present the state of play of the negotiations to the European Council and the European Parliament".

But there will be no withdrawal agreement without a fully operation backstop.

This came after it was confirmed that the United Kingdom will no longer have access to EU law enforcement databases or participate in the European arrest warrant agreement.

"We are woefully unprepared for the reality of Mrs May's no-deal Brexit".

Mr Juncker will conclude his two-day visit to Dublin on Friday when he meets President Michael D Higgins at his official residence and then tours the Croke Park Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) stadium.

This week the European Union warned that more work was needed on how to deal with the 300-mile frontier post-Brexit.

Responding to Mr Juncker's remarks, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said he has secured a place in history amid the Brexit "riddle".
