Saudi Arabia 2 - 1 Egypt - Match Report & Highlights

Saudi Arabia 2 - 1 Egypt - Match Report & Highlights

Mohamed Salah signed off from Russian Federation with a goal but saw his Egypt team suffer a late defeat as Saudi Arabia snatched a 2-1 win in an entertaining game in Volgograd.

However, Fahad Al-Muwallad was unable to beat El Hadary, who pushed the effort onto the top of the woodwork to keep the Pharaohs ahead.

The game looked to be heading for a draw until Salem Al Dawsari's victor deep into stoppage time handed Saudi Arabia all three points.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt have only pride to play for as they take to the 2018 World Cup stage for the final time.

Saudi Arabia enters the match in Volgograd having yet to score in the competition after a 5-0 loss to Russian Federation and a 1-0 setback vs. Uruguay.

"Obviously every player wants to set a record", El-Hadary said before the match and the sick save.

Moments later, Salah should have doubled his tally after being played through on goal for a second time but the forward tried to be too clever and flicked the ball well wide of the far post.

But after a VAR-induced review that took nearly five minutes to complete, Colombian referee Wilmar Roldan chose to stick with his original decision.

That save kept Egypt up 1-0, but he couldn't go 2-2 on penalty kicks.

WHAT'S HAPPENING: Border policy fuels backlash against Trump
Trump was due to meet Republicans in the House of Representatives on Tuesday as they prepared to vote on two immigration bills. The Border Patrol said close to 200 people inside the facility were minors unaccompanied by a parent.

Just as the game seemed destined to end honors even, Saudi striker Salem Al Dawsari popped up with the last kick of the game to fire a low finish into the net, sending the Saudi bench into raptures.

Egypt's tournament has been a fairytale turned horror story with the injury saga of their key player Mohamed Salah.

Salah scored on Egypt's first real opportunity in the 21st minute.

Saudi Arabia midfielder Abdullah Otayf completed 110 passes in this match, the most by an Asian player in a World Cup match since 1966.

Egypt goalkeeper Essam El Hadary, the oldest in World Cup history, deflects and saves a penalty shot from Saudi Arabia.

The Al-Hilal man was key to Saudi Arabia's victory.

This time, Salman Al-Faraj made no mistake, sending the 45-year-old the wrong way.

Salah is also clearly not fully fit, but managed to score two goals in his two appearances, one from the penalty spot.
