How an Alaska Senator Could Make or Break Trump's Supreme Court Plans

How an Alaska Senator Could Make or Break Trump's Supreme Court Plans

According to a report by Politico, Demand Justice, which was already running ads on social media in early June attacking Trump's potential Supreme Court nominees, is launching a $5 million radio, television, digital and voter mobilization campaign in Alaska and ME, home to two moderate Republican senators who will be key votes in the coming confirmation process: Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski.

However, the senator later said she would be looking to precedent in her vote on Supreme Court nominees, suggesting Roe v. Wade would have an impact on her decision.

Judges on the list were selected by Trump and White House counsel Don McGahn on the strength of their conservative credentials, which appear in all cases to include an opposition to abortion rights and skepticism over same-sex marriage and other gay rights.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins, a key vote for President Donald Trump's upcoming pick for the Supreme Court, is warning that she would oppose any nominee who would consider overturning the ruling in Roe v. Wade that legalizes abortion.

Trump said he will name his nominee for the court by next Monday.

The other top potential nominees are Thomas Hardiman, who serves on the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; Raymond Kethledge of the Cincinnati, Ohio-based 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; and Amul Thapar, whom Trump named to the 6th Circuit.

In fact, in 2017, Neil Gorsuch - Trump's first Supreme Court pick who now sits on the court - said he would have "walked out the door" had Trump asked him to overturn Roe v. Wade because "that's not what judges do".

They also have complained that Brych showed four Serbia players yellow cards but only one Swiss player was booked. The players denied that their celebration was political. "In football, you have always emotions".

Getting a successor to Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his resignation last week, approved by the Senate before the current session ends this year is a crucial task for Trump.

The group received support on Twitter last week from 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who said she "excited to support" their campaign.

"The White House Counsel's office is overseeing a team of White House and Administration personnel from offices within the EEOB".

On Sunday, Leonard Leo, an outside adviser to Trump on judicial nominations, said he expected Trump to select a nominee who is mindful of precedent but who is also more "originalist and textualist".

Trump said he has narrowed the shortlist to five choices, though the president has yet to announce who is on it. John McCain not voting in the Senate due to his serious cancer, Republicans hold the barest of margins in what is now consequently a 50-49 Senate.

Judge Kavanaugh sits on Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and is a former clerk to Justice Kennedy. Trump said while running for president that he would nominate "pro-life" justices to the Court, but it's not exactly clear how pro-life they have to be. Vice President Mike Pence can be called on to break a tie.
