May says her Chequers plan on #Brexit is not dead

May says her Chequers plan on #Brexit is not dead

But by sticking to her plan for a "business-friendly" departure, May has thrown down the gauntlet to Brexit supporters and pro-EU lawmakers in her party who are at war with each other, and - for some - with the prime minister herself.

"It is not too late to save Brexit", Johnson said in his speech.

Earlier this month, on the 9th, rumours spread that Mrs May was about to face a leadership challenge from pro-Brexit Tories as she met in private with the 1922 Committee.

The "Brexiteers" were angry that May's Chequers agreement - a plan for a Brexit strategy hatched at May's official country residence 10 days ago - envisaged a close future relationship with the EU.

Mr Corbyn replied: "Is she seriously expecting 27 member states of the European Union are going to establish their own bureaucratic tariff collection infrastructure just to satisfy the war within the Conservative Party in Britain?"

While May's party continues to be divided by her desire for a "business-friendly" departure, European Union member Ireland also said it was focusing on the white paper, unwilling to be diverted over the changes to her Brexit plans forced through in Parliament this week.

The Commons was only half full for the statement but Johnson was surrounded by eurosceptic members of the ruling Conservative party, including David Davis, the former Brexit minister who also quit the cabinet last week over May's plan.

"We have changed tack once and we can change again".

One in a series of knife-edge Brexit votes yesterday, the amendment to the trade bill put forward by Green Party MP Caroline Lucas would have required all new free trade deals to be subject to Parliamentary scrutiny and consent.

Brexit plan 'may kill' USA trade deal: Donald Trump
Tens of thousands of protesters marched through London on Friday to demonstrate against the US president's visit. If you think of it, for so many years she has represented her country, she has really never made a mistake.

"Instead we dithered. We burned through negotiating capital".

"We must try now, because we will not get another chance to get it right".

As EU governments get ready to step up planning for a no-deal scenario, the UK's new Brexit secretary Dominic Raab will travel to Brussels for talks on Thursday (19 July).

But by setting a deadline for May to change her approach, she said he appeared to be telling MPs that it would be "in their hands" if she didn't.

While Johnson was delivering his speech May was along the corridor in the Houses of Parliament facing a grilling from a liaison committee, made up of every chair of every House of Commons select committee.

His comments reflect numerous concerns that have been expressed by the pharma industry, which has invested heavily in the United Kingdom as the EMA has been headquartered in London for the past two decades.

"It as though a fog of self-doubt has descended", Johnson said.

Theresa May is gearing up for one of the most hard days of her tenure. The BMA has consistently highlighted the importance of a formal agreement post Brexit, and we want to see the government commit to getting the best deal possible for patients and doctors on this issue.
