Facebook suspends profile of Infowars founder, says ban is 'close'

Facebook suspends profile of Infowars founder, says ban is 'close'

The videos that led Facebook to impose the short posting ban are believed to be the same ones that led YouTube to act.

The ban affects Jones personally, meaning he can not post to his various pages for the next 30 days. A Facebook spokesperson also said if Jones or his fellow admins continue to break its rules, his pages face a permanent ban from the site.

The Facebook spokesperson said that three of the four videos were reported to Facebook Wednesday. This move coming hot on the heels of the removal of the very same videos by YouTube from InfoWars' channel - the subscriber count for which exceeds 2.4 million - along with a 90-day ban preventing it from broadcasting live videos.

"Our Community Standards make it clear that we prohibit content that encourages physical harm [bullying], or attacks someone based on their religious affiliation or gender identity [hate speech]", the spokesperson told Mashable.

Taking her older sister duties very seriously, it's evident that Princess Charlotte is clearly besotted with her little brother. There has been something of a royal baby boom in recent months, and it extends to those beyond members of the family, it seems.

Those four videos have since been removed from Jones' channels.

Online platforms like Facebook and Google-owned YouTube have taken flak in recent months, as they seemingly fail to remove high-profile hoaxes and unfounded conspiracy theories about tragedies before they reach hundreds of thousands of people.

The parents of two children who died in the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting sued Jones for defamation in April, accusing him and InfoWars of engaging in a campaign of "false, cruel, and risky assertions". On Facebook, punishing the InfoWars host isn't the same as punishing the InfoWars page. "All four videos have been removed from Facebook". The fourth was reported about one month ago, but Facebook incorrectly determined that it did not violate its community standards at the time. When a page gets a certain number of strikes (Facebook did not provide a specific number), the page is unpublished.

Wrote Mashable: "While Jones didn't receive an out-and-out ban this time, he's certainly treading on thin ice as far as Facebook's concerned". While that video didn't prompt Facebook to action, apparently bringing up the controversy did.
