White House adviser Bolton urges North Korea to act on denuclearization

White House adviser Bolton urges North Korea to act on denuclearization

North Korea on Thursday threatened to stall the denuclearization of its missile program if the USA continues to abide by an "outdated acting script" amid Washington's calls to enforce sanctions against the regime.

"We hoped that these goodwill measures would contribute to breaking down the high barrier of mistrust" between Pyongyang and Washington, the North's Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.

The North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Thursday that President Donald Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has improved relations between the two nations. Speaking to CNN on Monday, he said "we're waiting for the North Koreans to begin the process of denuclearization, which they committed to in Singapore and which they've not yet done".

"What we need is performance from North Korea on denuclearisation", he said. Last month, Washington warned against loosening sanctions on Pyongyang after Russian Federation and China suggested discussing such a move.

North Korea then released a statement following up on Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho's criticism of the US last weekend for not carrying out simultaneous measures after Pyongyang also allowed the U.S.to pick up war remains last month - even though Washington did suspend joint military drills with South Korea this summer. Among the agreements was holding another inter-Korean summit in the fall in Pyongyang.

Asked about the possibility of additional meetings, Bolton said Trump in a recent letter to Kim proposed sending Pompeo back to North Korea, and that Trump was ready to meet with Kim any time.

Paul Manafort trial: jury selection under way
Rudy Giuliani, the president's personal lawyer, has indicated that Mr Trump could pardon Mr Manafort should he be found guilty. But Manafort doesn't appear to have "valuable enough information to make these charges go away altogether", Griffin said.

US National Security Advisor John Bolton has also weighed in on the issue, saying Sunday that nobody in Trump's administration is "starry-eyed" about the prospect "of North Korea actually denuclearising".

"The U.S. should, even at this belated time, respond to our honest efforts in a corresponding manner", North Korea added in its statement.

North Korea said it has halted nuclear and missile tests and dismantled its nuclear test site as practical steps toward denuclearization, but it lashed out at the USA for unilaterally demanding North Korea denuclearize first.

As for the third summit's date - the spokesman said that'll be sketched out after Monday's talks, . commenting that it's too early to discuss the schedule in detail.

It has urged Washington to take reciprocal steps including officially declaring an end to the war and dropping sanctions. An article Thursday in the Rodong Sinmun said a formal peace treaty ending the Korean War must take place before denuclearization.

Mr. Kim and Mr. Moon met in April at a highly publicized summit that saw the leaders hold hands and walk together across the border, and then again in a more informal summit in May, just weeks before Mr. Kim met Mr. Trump in Singapore.
