That time Aretha Franklin swooped in and saved the Grammys

That time Aretha Franklin swooped in and saved the Grammys

Aretha Franklin, the "Queen of Soul", died Thursday at the age of 76. In 2010, after she canceled several concerts, there were reports that Franklin had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but she denied it. "The love she had for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins knew no bounds", Franklin's family said.

The statement continued: "Thank you for your compassion and prayers".

"Every time one of her songs comes on, everyone sings along, everyone knows the lyrics and. her songs give you that power, like that confidence to step out into the world and to feel, as a woman and as a black woman, like, that you are lovely and that you can do it", said Chelsea Monroe, 29. "As we grieve, we ask that you respect our privacy during this hard time", the statement concluded.

Her final performance was at an Elton John AIDS Foundation gala in New York City in November 2017.

Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.

Over the years, Franklin received 18 Grammy Awards and sold tens of millions of records.

Barbra Streisand shared a photo of her and Franklin from 2012, tweeting: "It's hard to conceive of a world without her".

Franklin also re-appeared in the film's closing credits to sing a line during the band's performance of Jailhouse Rock.

Elon Musk Reveals Details of Tesla V9.0 Software, Including Early Access
Musk, the CEO and largest shareholder of the electric auto maker, said on Twitter on Tuesday that he has secured private funding. If Musk can't prove the allegedly secured funding at $420 per share, he may be accused of market manipulation or market fraud.

The music legend began her career as a child, singing gospel at a church in her home state of MI.

British musician and composer Elton John praised Franklin's "unique" voice, calling her "the greatest soul artist of all time".

Dan Aykroyd, who spent time with Franklin on the set of both Blues Brothers movies, tweeted that he recalled "happy memories" of her. "Our intention was to honor the icon using a secondary image of her performing with Patti LaBelle in the full screen graphic, but the image of Ms. Franklin was obscured in that process, which we deeply regret".

"Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Aretha helped define the American experience". A woman that was very passionate about her music and a woman that was also kind and giving. "The way she leads the group, you wouldn't need to have someone conducting to tell you where you're going". In a 1999 interview on the public radio show Fresh Air, Franklin remembered traveling through the Deep South to sing with her father and discovering just how deep racism ran in America during the 1960s.

The Queen of Soul remained a prominent face - and voice - for African American civil rights throughout her life. In her most memorable addition, Franklin spelled out her demand for parity for emphasis in the bridge: "R-E-S-P-E-C-T/ Find out what it means to me /R-E-S-P-E-C-T / Take care, TCB [take of business]". She rose to prominence in large part from the 1967 smash hit "Respect", a cover of Otis Redding's song from two years earlier that achieved much greater popularity than the original. "I just know she had on a green coat".

Her biggest hit, "Respect", became an anthem of the civil rights and women's movements.

"I'm sitting in prayer for the wonderful golden spirit Aretha Franklin", wrote Diana Ross.

"She represents music. Black soulful music".
