Cubs nearing deal for Daniel Murphy

Cubs nearing deal for Daniel Murphy

Three of them - Bryce Harper, first baseman Matt Adams and second baseman Daniel Murphy - were claimed.

The Cardinals also announced they have activated Carlos Martinez from the 10-day DL. The Washington Nationals placed him on revocable trade waivers, and someone is interested.

Murphy has been traded to the Chicago Cubs, according to multiple reports.

Adams will be a free agent at the end of the season.

The Cardinals are tied with Philadelphia and Colorado for the second NL Wild Card spot.

Clergy abuse victims advocate: Pennsylvania findings 'not the first or the last'
Many victims claimed they were drugged or otherwise manipulated. One priest sexually abused five sisters from the same family. Even so, the headline numbers speak for themselves.

The Cardinals drafted Adams in the 23rd round of the June 2009 First-Year Player Draft. On May 20, 2017, Adams was traded to the Atlanta Braves for minor league infielder Juan Yepez.

Murphy, 33, has only featured in 56 games this season due to injury, but he's now slashing.300/.341/.442 with six home runs, 29 RBIs and 17 runs scored. He has hit 18 home runs, 48 RBI and is slugging.510.

But any contribution Tuesday night won't come from shortstop Addison Russell, who was scratched from lineup due to a sore right throwing shoulder. Martínez has a 6-6 record with a 3.41 ERA in 18 starts this season, striking out 98 batters in 100.1 innings.

Infielder Patrick Wisdom was optioned to the club's Triple-A affiliate in Memphis.

For Adams, the Cardinals are sending $50,000 to Washington.
