Trump, Obstructing Justice Again, Asked Lawyers About Manafort Pardon

Trump, Obstructing Justice Again, Asked Lawyers About Manafort Pardon

"So we agreed to throw out his testimony and look at the paperwork, which his name was all over", Duncan said.

Trump in recent days has said he feels "very badly" for Manafort and has called him "brave", appearing to laud him for not co-operating with prosecutors, in contrast to Trump's former personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.

In tweets, Trump sought to contrast Manaforts posture with that of Michael Cohen, the presidents former lawyer and fixer, who on Tuesday entered a guilty plea in a Manhattan federal court on eight counts.

"He mentioned pardoning Manafort", Fox & Friends co-host Ainsley Earhardt told political pundit Sean Hannity Wednesday, previewing the broadcast of her interview with Trump. I would want to get some feedback, talk to the jury, get a sense of what was the split was. "But in the end, she held out and that's why we have 10 counts that did not get a verdict".

Earhardt was the subject of widespread ridicule after last Thursday she mistakenly stated that the US defeated "communist Japan" in an impassioned criticism of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who had said America "was never that great".

Manafort was convicted of eight counts - five of tax fraud, two of bank fraud, and one of failure to report a foreign bank account.

Duncan described herself as an avid supporter of President Trump, and added she was skeptical about prosecutors' motives in the financial crimes case.

"In fact, my first question when I heard about it was "did they come out of the campaign", because that could be a little dicey", he said.

Cohen, who served as Trump's personal attorney and worked in his Trump Organization, pleaded guilty Tuesday to eight counts that included tax fraud and campaign finance violations.

Duncan, who graduated with a degree in environmental science and journalism from the University of Missouri in 1989, said she was planning to write a book about her experience.

Giuliani said he and Sekulow provided their advice to delay any possible pardons for people linked to the Mueller probe in the last "3 to 5 weeks" - in the wake of a series of pardons Trump granted this summer.

The former New York City mayor said he and Sekulow advised Trump that for political and public relations purposes, it would not be a good idea to consider pardoning anyone until the court cases related to Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation are over.

"Legally he's entitled to pardon Manafort", said Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard professor that Trump likes to watch on TV.

Giuliani said Trump was seeking advice in the wake of a spate of pardons he granted earlier this summer, including for a woman whom Kim Kardashian had lobbied the White House to release.

In several tweets on Wednesday morning, Trump referred to Manafort as "a fearless man" and contrasted his behavior with that of Michael Cohen, Trump's longtime personal attorney who implicated Trump as a participant in crimes to which Cohen pleaded guilty a day earlier. Once court returned to session, Ellis reminded jurors several times to not discuss the case at all.

His former associate Rick Gates, who in February pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy and lying to investigators, co-operated with the investigation into Manafort. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) think Attorney General Jeff Sessions is on his way out - and they seem ready to replace him.
