Trump adviser Bolton says Russian Federation "stuck" in Syria, Iran must leave

Trump adviser Bolton says Russian Federation

At the upcoming talks of Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev and US National Security Adviser John Bolton, the Russian side will explain substantively what is erroneous in Washington's current policy towards Moscow, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told TASS on Wednesday.

Speaking to journalists at a press briefing inside the USA mission in Geneva, Bolton said that they had made some progress, and identified specific areas "in which it is possible to restore communication lines and conduct more work within the relevant departments". "Syria reiterates that it has no chemical weapons as it honors its obligations under the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) which informed worldwide bodies that Syria has fulfilled its obligations in this area", the source said.

Bolton sidestepped a question on whether these measures would continue, saying the U.S. was staying in Syria to carry out some specific objectives. In addition, Bolton insisted, the United States role there was "to worry about the presence of Iranian militias and regular forces".

Washington is considered a prerequisite for the peaceful reconstruction of Syria, the withdrawal from its territory of Iranian troops and mercenaries, said John Bolton.

"I don't think they (the Russians - ed.) want to be there".

The administration has demanded that Iran, a Russian ally in support of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, withdraw all of its "regular and irregular" military forces from Syria.

He said he had expressed the USA 'priority of getting all Iranian forces out of Syria, ' and reiterated that Putin had told Bolton in a recent meeting that the Russians too 'would like to see the Iranians go home as well, we (the Russians) are just not sure we alone can accomplish it'.

Smoky air returns to Seattle through at least Wednesday
A cold front has shifted wind direction and smoke from the British Columbia wildfires is now shifting stateside. The MPCA said the smoke plume is from fires in British Columbia, Alberta and northwestern Ontario.

"Even at the peak of the oil sanctions prior to the nuclear deal, the oil market never experienced the predicated spikes that sanction skeptics initially feared", Iran expert Behnam Ben Taleblu told JNS. One of the consequences of Trump's sanctions against Iran is that those who travel to Iran might face some difficulties afterwards.

Bolton said that the sanctions were created to "put maximum pressure on the regime". "Much of UNRWA's expenses really go to perpetuating the refugee status of the Palestinian people, and I think that's a mistake".

The Idlib region, a refuge for civilians and rebels displaced from other areas of Syria as well as powerful armed forces, was hit by a wave of air attacks and shelling this month, in a possible prelude to a full-scale government offensive.

"Well, this question of what to do with the Iranian forces... was something we discussed", he says.

"We are obviously concerned about the possibility that Assad may use chemical weapons again".

Syria has denounced a recent statement by the US, Britain and France on the alleged use of chemical weapons by the Damascus government, saying the trio is leading a campaign of misinformation against the Arab country in line with their support for terrorists.
