National Enquirer boss granted immunity in Cohen probe

National Enquirer boss granted immunity in Cohen probe

The conversations reportedly were about Mr Cohen, who this week pleaded guilty to breaking campaign finance laws over payments to two women claiming affairs with Mr Trump before the election.

His company allegedly was involved in the hush-money deals, involving payments to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal to shut down allegations of affairs with President Trump.

People instantly recognized who was in Conway's sights in this tweet. A source also told NBC News that Weisselberg was the anonymous "Executive 1" mentioned in the criminal information filed by prosecutors in this case.

He spoke to a grand jury investigating Michael Cohen.

A former USA labor secretary, who is now a leading economist, has called for the annulment of Donald Trump's election victory, calling it 'unconstitutional'. She also is suing the president and Cohen for defamation after they called her a "liar".

The Enquirer endorsed Trump for president in 2016, the first time it had ever officially backed a candidate.

What's next for president Donald Trump? The Trump Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Cohen-Manafort fallout
Russian Federation has denied meddling in the election, although USA intelligence agencies have concluded Moscow interfered. Trump's attorneys said Cohen is lying in order to get better treatment from prosecutors over his own illegal conduct.

Last week was considered one of the toughest in Trump's presidency that saw his former campaign manager and former personal attorney in court in the same hour on the same day. The tape was seized during the FBI's April raid on Cohen's residence and office, and was released to the media by Cohen's attorney Lanny Davis.

There is no indication their cooperation extends beyond the scope of the Cohen probe. "Trump certainly would not have authorized the payments unless he thought it was politically imperative to do so". One of the executives is American Media chief executive officer David Pecker, a long-time Trump friend. The money covered the $130,000 payment to Daniels plus costs and fees, a bonus for Cohen, and money to cover his tax liability. Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani said in May this was part of "a long-standing agreement that Michael Cohen takes care of situations like this, then gets paid for them sometimes".

The White House said it's up to Trump's outside lawyers to deal with much of the news.

Second, Trump can cure the injustice stemming from the one-sided probe by declassifying documents the Justice Department is hiding from Congress and the public.

There's more. The Times also reports that New York's attorney general, Barbara Underwood, is moving forward with state-level tax fraud charges against Michael Cohen, who already pleaded guilty to similar, federal charges in court this week.

Trump has given shifting explanations of his knowledge of the payment, most recently saying that it came out of his own pocket, which wouldn't necessarily preclude it from being a campaign violation.
