Aretha Franklin's funeral returns to her gospel roots

Aretha Franklin's funeral returns to her gospel roots

Family and friends will gather Friday morning, August 31, in Detroit for a star-studded funeral service for "The Queen of Soul", Aretha Franklin. "She had the voice of generation, maybe the voice of a century".

"There are some girls who haven't been born yet ... who will be inspired by Aretha", he said.

"Even though you knew over the last couple of months that she was sick and you knew this day was coming and you thought you would be prepared for it - but now that it's here it really is overwhelming", he said.

The city has treated her death as the passing of royalty, with Franklin's body laying in repose in the grand rotunda of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History for two days of public visitation earlier this week. "I love her. She was my longest friend".

"I've got to apologize because I have to brush up".

The Cohen-Manafort fallout
Russian Federation has denied meddling in the election, although USA intelligence agencies have concluded Moscow interfered. Trump's attorneys said Cohen is lying in order to get better treatment from prosecutors over his own illegal conduct.

In the Army Respect for others underpins all that we do, so there was only one tune that would do for today's ceremony: the 1967 Aretha Franklin hit "R.E.S.P.E.C.T." a declaration from a strong confident woman who knows that she has everything.

Singing a Franklin classic in front of the late icon's family and friends was no doubt a daunting task, but Grande handled it with grace, keeping her usual verbal gymnastics in check to deliver a attractive, faithful rendition. He ended by playing her song "Think" on his phone. "She worked for us". "It's the key to freedom!" Hill urged the large crowd gathered at the Greater Grace Temple to pay their respects. On the show, Grande recounted her memories of meeting Franklin, saying, "I met her a few times".

Her career spanned decades and she performed for presidents, royals, and the biggest names around the world.

The tribute is a nod to Franklin's funky '80s tune, "Freeway of Love, " which prominently featured the auto in the lyrics and video.

Robinson said he will just make it "personal", since he remained close with Franklin until the end. Her oncologist, Dr. Philip Phillips of Karmanos Cancer Institute, said the 76-year-old singer's official cause of death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer of the neuroendocrine type.
