International Space Station Repaired After Pressure Leak

International Space Station Repaired After Pressure Leak

They eventually discovered that the leak was coming from a 2 millimeter hole in the Russian segment of the ISS, the upper section of the Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft - which is now attached to the Rassvet module.

The space agency has now confirmed the breach only caused "a minor reduction of station pressure".

Mission controllers in Houston, Texas, and Russia's capital, Moscow, say the six-strong crew are in no danger.

As the Telegraph reports, NASA's live radio feed to astronauts aboard the ISS revealed that one of the astronauts was forced to plug the small hole with his thumb while the rest of the crew readied a more permanent fix.

Alarm bells went off in Houston, Texas, and outside of Moscow on Wednesday, August 29, alerting flight control crews of a pressure drop.

In September 2014, NASA awarded Boeing and Elon Musk's SpaceX a combined $6.8 billion to revive the U.S.'s capability to fly to the ISS station.

To slack the leak, the crew used Kapton, a roughly industrial strength "residence tape" that remains stable across outrageous temperatures.

Former Liverpool boss Hodgson is likely to keep with the same side on Monday and will be buoyed by the vocal home support. The Reds took the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time through James Milner .

"This leak seems to have resulted from a micrometeoroid impact".

"The crew is in no danger and is actively working troubleshooting procedures", the space agency said in a tweet.

The Russian Mission Control recommended the astronauts to let the sealant dry for a night and conduct more leak checks on Friday.

There are five astronauts now stationed on the ISS: three Americans, two Russians and one German. It's their ride home, too, come December, and also serves as a lifeboat in case of an emergency.

The hole is located in the upper section of the Soyuz, which does not return to Earth, according to Nasa.

Three Americans, two Russians and a German are now on board the station.

Both natural micrometeoroids (bits of rock left over from the formation of our solar system) and space debris (small pieces of spacecraft that still orbit Earth) are travelling at incredible speeds through space.
