Sam Patten, Manafort associate, pleads guilty in case referred by Mueller

Sam Patten, Manafort associate, pleads guilty in case referred by Mueller

Forced into the opposition, the oligarchs formed a political party called Opposition Bloc, which worked with Manafort and Gates in 2014, before largely shifting its political consulting and lobbying business to a company started by Patten and Konstantin V. Kilimnik.

W. Samuel Patten, 47, also admitted to soliciting a USA citizen to act as a straw purchaser to buy tickets to the inauguration of President Donald Trump for a Ukrainian oligarch, circumventing a law restricting such purchases by foreigners.

Manafort has acknowledged that he was in frequent contact with Kilimnik while serving as the Trump campaign's chairman, saying he met with Kilimnik in May and August 2016.

The lobbyist, Sam Patten, 47, admitted that he failed to register in the U.S.as a foreign agent for his work lobbying on behalf of a Ukrainian political party.

W. Samuel Patten is expected to plead guilty Friday morning at a hearing in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

Patten's ties to Kilimnik are more concrete.

The company was paid more than $1 million through an offshore Cypriot bank account to advise the party and its members, including a "prominent Ukraine oligarch" between 2014 and this year, according to a court document filed Friday.

The Ukrainian opposition bloc had deep ties to Russian Federation in the period in which Patten represented them, including former Ukrainian President and opposition bloc member Viktor Yanukovych living in Russian Federation after he was driven out of Ukraine in 2014.

Former Liverpool boss Hodgson is likely to keep with the same side on Monday and will be buoyed by the vocal home support. The Reds took the lead from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time through James Milner .

Gates also said that Manafort began working for the Opposition Bloc after his previous patron, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, was pushed from power in a popular uprising.

Manafort and Kilimnik were both indicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russian Federation probe. Kilimnik worked closely with Manafort, who was found guilty this month of eight financial counts.

"[He] had previously filed under the Foreign Agents Registration Act for another client".

Patten's plea agreement requires him to co-operate with the government.

No sentencing date has been set.

Patten also did work for the parent company of Cambridge Analytica, the now-defunct political data firm that was embroiled in a controversy over its use of Facebook Inc data, according to interview transcripts submitted by academic Emma Briant and published by British lawmakers earlier this year. Mueller alleged that Kilimnik has ties to Russian intelligence agencies.

He also worked with an unnamed Russian to place op-ed articles in United States media in 2017, the Justice Department says. Prosecutors detailed how he was among the wealthy Ukrainian businessmen who paid Manafort for his own political consulting work. The investigation also led to guilty plea by Trump's longtime personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, in a case brought by the US attorney's office in Manhattan.

He headed the International Republican Institute's Moscow office from 2001 to 2004, and provided technical assistance to a range of political parties and non-governmental organizations, according to the website.
