Burt Reynolds Dead at 82

The Hollywood star Burt Reynolds has died at the age of 82.

Reynolds, who grew up in Palm Beach County and made it a point to bring A-list stars to Florida, died Thursday at Jupiter Medical Center. He previously underwent heart surgery in 2010.

He starred in more than 80 films, including his break-out hit Deliverance, as well as Smokey and the Bandit, and Boogie Nights, but he turned down being James Bond in 1970. He had a son, Quinton Reynolds, with Anderson in 1988.

Sadly, unlike the Ford Mustangs that Steve McQueen drove in the film "Bullitt", none of the dozen actual cars used in the making of "Smokey and The Bandit" survived.

Reynolds made a comeback with 1997's "Boogie Nights", for which he was nominated for an Oscar.

Reynolds was born February 11, 1936, in Lansing, Michigan, and moved to Riviera, Florida, where his war-hero father Milo was the chief of police.

At times struggling to walk, Reynolds was given a chair on the celebrity walkway so he could speak to a limited number of reporters about his film "Dog Years". Burt Reynolds, underrated as a dramatic actor (Deliverance), underrated as a director (Sharkey's Machine), but also a rare movie star that seemed to be just having an absolute ball onscreen. Reynolds - who played football while he attended Florida State University - played an ex-professional football player who returns to rural Evening Shade, Arkansas, to coach a losing high-school football team.

Reynolds had visited New Zealand to make the 2004 film Without a Paddle, alongside Seth Green.

Prolific playwright Neil Simon dead at 91
He wrote more than 30 plays in total, and was also nominated for four different Oscars for his screenplays over the years. Simon's wife, Elaine Joyce Simon , was at the writer's bedside, along with Simon's daughters, Ellen and Nancy Simon .

His acting career began on stage in NY in the 1950s.

Tributes have been paid to Reynolds.

Reynolds has also become well known for the roles that he turned down over the years.

In 1998, Reynolds received his first Academy Award nod, for a supporting role in Boogie Nights that also earned him a Golden Globe.

In his 2015 memoir But Enough About Me, he said: "I didn't open myself to new writers or risky parts because I wasn't interested in challenging myself as an actor. And there's one thing they can never take away: Nobody had more fun than I did".

Burt Reynolds sits on a 1977 Pontiac Trans-Am at the world premiere of "The Bandit" at the Paramount Theatre during the South by Southwest Film Festival in March 2016 in Austin, Texas.

Actor Wesley Snipes referenced a line from Smokey And The Bandit in his tribute to Reynolds. I don't know what I was thinking.
