Cuomo-Nixon showdown in NY governor's race goes to voters

Cuomo-Nixon showdown in NY governor's race goes to voters

A campaign mailer accusing ny gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon of anti-Semitism was drafted and approved by people connected with incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign team.

Now the New York Times reports that the flier was drafted and approved by two men with close ties to Cuomo.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is taking some heat from his opponent Cynthia Nixon for holding a rally that was initially closed to the media. Nixon, who has never held office, has said Cuomo's experience has not translated to good governance, Cuomo has said she is inexperienced and naive about the practicalities of ny politics.

And in July, Mr. Cuomo was dragged into ugly headlines after the architect of his six-year-old plan to revitalize upstate NY - dubbed "Buffalo Billion" - was convicted in a bid-rigging scheme involving state contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Nixon, meanwhile, is hoping several recent missteps by Cuomo and his campaign come back to bite him.

Cuomo is widely expected to win the Democratic gubernatorial primary, having received endorsements from The New York Times and the New York Daily News.

Cuomo frequently points out that education spending has increased since he took office, and is now at the highest level ever.

Reynolds made a comeback with 1997's " Boogie Nights ", for which he was nominated for an Oscar. Reynolds had visited New Zealand to make the 2004 film Without a Paddle, alongside Seth Green.

But first she faces off against Cuomo, 60, in the state's Democratic primary on Thursday.

Another closely watched race is the four-way Democratic contest for attorney general.

'Thursday we vote. Everyone! Cuomo's inability to win voters over on the issue - and only a slight 2-point lead on "advancing progressive issues" - are the only two areas where the poll shows Cuomo looking vulnerable.

"Our politics need to reflect our world + with women speaking up every day about and against mistreatment (often at the most systemic and deeply entrenched levels), fighting tirelessly for a seat at the table, Cynthia Nixon & the incredible success of this campaign so far has proven that women's voices need to be lifted up & represented at every level of government, now more than ever", Dunham added. She could have brought up his failure to address gerrymandering, an issue that Cuomo ran on in 2010. "I just think that there's been a lot of missed opportunities".

Cuomo's campaign said the "inappropriate" mailer was "wrong" and should not have gone out.

The Cuomo campaign has denied being behind the mailer. The question remains whether that wave will be enough to carry Nixon to victory. "It might be closer than he prefers, or the polls could be right for a change, but usually when they have spreads this big, things collapse down", Cunningham said.
