SC lifts ban on women entering Sabarimala

SC lifts ban on women entering Sabarimala

They are often kept out of communal cooking and eating places on days that they are menstruating, and barred from entering temples.

The temple's authorities said they will appeal to the Supreme Court for a review of the ruling ahead of its next period of opening, beginning October 16. However, he plans on having a discussion regarding the matter with the government as well as the temple's board.

Padmakumar said that women devotees will have to cope with the facilities available. In January this year, the temple authorities had made it mandatory for female devotees to furnish their age proof while visiting. "Supreme Court decision has given a fresh expression to the rights of women and how they can not be subjugated to any religious practice, no matter how sacred", he said on Twitter.

"India is a country comprising of diverse religions, creeds, sects each of which have their faiths, beliefs, and distinctive practises". Issues which have deep religious connotation should not be tinkered with to maintain secular atmosphere in the country. The Board, he said, would have to face many challenges in implementing the verdict.

The Kerala government welcomes the judgment.

But others hailed the judgment as progressive.

However, the petitioners in the case were not devotees. He said, "We are fighting to save Article 25 and also the basis of temples".

The question of how the verdict should be implemented would be decided based on detailed discussions, Mr. Surendran said.

Seahawks running back Chris Carson surpasses 100 yards vs. Cowboys
Given his brief absence Monday night, and the team's overall lack of carries through two games, all eyes will be on Carson Sunday. Carson finished with 102 yards, the first Seattle running back to top 100 yards since late in the 2016 season.

The state committee of Shiv Sena has called for a state-wide dawn-to-dusk hartal on Monday in protest against the Supreme Court's judgement allowing all women to enter Sabarimala.

CJI Misra added, "Women no way inferior to men".

The Chief Justice is reading out the judgment.

They also say they will appeal to the Supreme Court for a review of the ruling. It also said that once the temple doors are open, anyone can go in.

Exclusion of women because she menstruates is utterly unconstitutional, said Justice Chandrachud. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself changed his mind twice. While Justices R F Nariman and D Y Chandrachud concurred with the CJI and Justice A M Khanwilkar, Justice Indu Malhotra gave a dissenting verdict.

The Supreme Court verdict of doing away with the ban on entry of women (between the age of 10 and 50 years) inside the Sabarimala temple appears to have generated a "sense of unease" within the ranks of BJP, over what a section of the party considers an unwelcome encroachment on traditional Hindu norms.

The verdict regarding the case will be out by 10:30 am.

The court struck down rule 3 (b) of Kerala Hindu Places of Public Worship (Authorisation of Entry) Rules, 1965, which stated that "women who are not by custom and usage allowed to enter a place of public worship shall not be entitled to enter or offer worship in any place of public worship".
