White House denies ‘micromanaging’ Kavanaugh probe

White House denies ‘micromanaging’ Kavanaugh probe

Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to step forward with allegations of sexual assault against Judge Brett Kavanaugh, has not heard from FBI investigators examining claims made by Ford and others, a member of her legal team said Sunday.

Senate Republican leaders agreed Friday to delay a final vote on Kavanaugh to allow time for an investigation by the FBI at the request of Arizona Sen. Was it to "stand in solidarity with Dr. Ford" and Kavanaugh's other accusers?

Sanders said on "Fox News Sunday" that the White House is "not micromanaging this process" but also said an open-ended probe into Swetnick's claims and whether Kavanaugh may have misled lawmakers in his Senate Judiciary Committee testimony would not be acceptable.

The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the White House to ask the FBI to conduct the supplemental investigation, which will be "limited to current credible allegations" and must be done by October 5.

Christine Blasey Ford's legal team said Sunday they have not yet been contacted by the FBI despite the narrowing time frame for the investigation President Donald Trump ordered Friday.

Ramirez alleges that Kavanaugh, as a Yale University freshman, drunkenly exposed himself and shoved his penis in her face in front of a group of classmates, according to an account she gave to the New Yorker. Two others, Swetnick and Debbie Ramirez, have publicly come forward to accuse Kavanaugh of other sexual misconduct.

The new Trump tweet seems to contradict the presidents own statement from the 28th, saying that the FBI's investigation would be "limited in scope". "I encourage them to use the next week to gather any additional relevant facts, and then act on this nomination". In her gripping testimony, Ford said Kavanaugh and Judge's laughter during the incident has stuck with her almost four decades later.

On Monday, I was with the organization that I co-lead, the Center for Popular Democracy Action, and hundreds of people from across the country who came to D.C.to urge their senators to vote no on the Kavanaugh nomination. Jeff Flake, a moderate Republican who surprised colleagues by announcing his support for Kavanaugh early Friday only to call for further investigation a few hours later.

Don McGahn is the current White House counsel, and a friend of Kavanaugh.

"A lot of people who have not been through this - thank God they have not been through this - don't understand that a lot of us don't immediately go to law enforcement", McSally said. "They're going to Mark Judge - 'Did you ever see Brett Kavanaugh drug women or engage in gang rape?' I think that's going to be the focus of it".

"Having them do a thorough investigation, I actually think it will be a blessing in disguise", Trump said.

"If truth were the only goal, there would be no clock, and the investigation wouldn't have been sought after the Senate Judiciary Committee already endorsed the nominee", he said.

Lawyers for P.J. Smyth and Leland Ingham Keyser, two others who Ford said were in the house when she was attacked, have said their clients are willing to co-operate "fully" with the FBI's investigation.

Ford testified Thursday that she was "100 percent" certain that Kavanaugh, not another man, assaulted her in 1982. "This is a Democratic smear campaign, ' that I was surprised, struck to hear from a judicial nominee", Coons said.

Sanders said she was "not aware" whether McGahn had given the Federal Bureau of Investigation directions on who to interview or what to investigate.

"I have been unable to get all the information necessary regarding this nomination, despite my best efforts", said Donnelly in a written statement.

"The people who have real leverage on this thing are the three Republican senators who are still undecided", she said.

Another wing of the party was just as convinced that Republicans would trigger Election Day doom should they fail to confirm Trump's Supreme Court pick. "I'm a victim of sexual assault", she said.

Seahawks running back Chris Carson surpasses 100 yards vs. Cowboys
Given his brief absence Monday night, and the team's overall lack of carries through two games, all eyes will be on Carson Sunday. Carson finished with 102 yards, the first Seattle running back to top 100 yards since late in the 2016 season.
